The objects of ISHMM are
- To promote the development of academic, scientific research and training activity in the field of hypoxia as applied to the varied aspects of human health and disease, including hypoxia at High Altitude.
- To conduct training courses, research projects and other academic events in the field of fundamental sciences and science of medicine as relevant to hypoxia in health and disease and to the practice of Medicine in the mountains.
- To promote furthering the cause and science of medicine as relevant to hypoxia in health and disease and to the practice of Medicine in the mountains.
- To create scholarship amongst doctors in general and among practitioners of mountain medicine, researchers, and mountaineers in particular.
- Organize health camps in mountain and high-altitude areas.
- To publish journal, magazines, academic papers and other publications for the promotion of the objectives of the society.
